Hanging Papier-mache Bird Assorted

$10.00

These Papier-mâché birds are crafted in Kashmir. They all the same size except for the grey bronzed-winged bird in the flock which is larger!

Indian Papier-mâché typically begins with the pulping of paper mixed with adhesive substances like glue or starch to form a moldable material. Artisans then shape this pulp over molds or build it up layer by layer to form various objects. Once dry, these objects are sanded smooth and hand-painted.

Papier-mâché is a versatile craft technique used worldwide, including in India, where it has a rich history and is used to create a variety of decorative and functional items such as boxes, ornaments, and figurines. In India, this craft is particularly prominent in regions like Kashmir, where it is known as "Papier-mâché."
